The new Mercato Centrale in San Lorenzo | Florence

The Mercato Centrale (Central Market) is the covered market hall in Florence's "San Lorenzo" district. The two-storey building is one of the oldest markets in Florence, made with cast iron and glass, it was built in 1874. While the ground floor is still occupied by the traditional food market, the second floor has been renovated and opened to the public on april 2014 - just last week -. The multifunctional space hosts now local food shops, together with cafĂ© and restaurants - there's also a nice vegetarian place for me! -, a dedicated book shop, a cooking + a wine school and a special wine cellar/shop of the Chianti Classico Consortium.  Open everyday until 00.01. To visit.
