Fritz Juel, a houseboat in Copenhagen

Fritz Juel is a ferryboat built in 1954 in Svendborg, Denmark and now converted into a charming houseboat from DSA Ark . Fritz Juel has for a long time been facing Nyhavn and is now berthed at the Holmen. Equiped with solar panels on its roof, it hosted the office of architect Nils Jeppe Hansen, owner of DSA Ark Studio. Read the History and see more photos here.

“Being an architect, I have, for many years, been interested
in incorporating solar energy into buildings without compromising
the design of the exterior. This I have been able to
achieve on “Fritz Juel”, the house boat dated back from 1954,
where I have my office. I was able to install a system that supplies
plenty of usable energy that is generated by the sun. This
has lowered my heating costs and benefits the environment
by reducing CO 2 emission.”

SAFI, Sebastian Herkner with Carl Mertens

Sebastian Herkner has launched SAFI, his first product  with German brand Carl Mertens at the Maison&Objet in Paris - september 2012.
"SAFI are glass bowls with matching stainless steel lids. The round, purist-style bowls are made according to the two-in-one principle: the light stainless steel lid is designed like a separate flat bowl or tray. In connection with the glass bowl it serves as a protective cover and makes the storage containers stackable. Both parts are thus usable in combination or on their own."

Serendipity Paris - E-shopping ideas

Serendipity  is a 200m2 shopping space created in 2004 in Paris and dedicated to children under and over 18th. The boutique offers a collection of unique pieces, limited edition objects and exclusive creations from around the world.
For those who can't visit it in Paris, Serendipity has finally launched its E-shop. In this post, I show you a small selection but you can see all the other items here.

UP: Xboy hard drive bank - Xoopar Boy Bank is a personal hard drive we show, share or not (password to access to datas).  Hard drive with USB 2.0 - 500 Go - Plug'n play H 20 cm. Limited edition, only in white.

Storage tank - This holding tank with tips that can be stacked up has practical handles and can store almost anything. It comes from the industrial universe, is tough and multifunctional. It has been carefully thought out. Its weight capacity is written on the side.
Metal with lacquered epoxy finish. Available in different colors or chalk lacquered
W 30 x D 40 x H 20 cm

Plug truck adaptor cover - power sockets are mostly ugly but ubiquitous. Plug truck collects the standard three-way-socket.  Designed by Jörg Gätjens for children after 18th.
Retro fashion mirror with chain. This simple and beautiful mirror will suit both contemporary and classic style bathrooms. W 57 x H 39 cm (+16 cm chain). Available also in other models (es. three parts).

Ash II chair by Thomas Bentzen

"Ash II is a personal, nerdy experiment where Thomas Bentzen attempts to minimise the use of materials and tools. The seat and back of the chair are made in the lightest and thinnest veneer possible, and instead of moulding the chair, Thomas Bentzen has bent the seat and back by hand and glued them onto the frame. The solid ash wood frame is assembled with dowels."

Thomas Bentzen is a Danish Industrial Designer based in Copenhagen. His work ranges from tableware to interior design, from furniture to industrial design. Thomas loves to create objects that engage and create curiosity, that are functional and simple and meet the human need while in use - and simply create joy while not!

WorldFlexHome - Danish sustainable housing in Shanghai

Danish worldFLEXhome develops, manufactures and sells "green" homes  at 0-energy. The architect-designed homes have a modern design and are based on modular constructions. The first prototype will be used for a sustainable housing in the Chinese city Wuxi (East of Shanghai), where the Danish test house will be placed in a large development-project with a total of 45,000 m2.
The homes will be the first prefabricated housing system, that meets the class 1- demands in the international environment-building-standard, Active House and fulfils the Danish 2020-requirements which implies co-opting energy consumption through integrated solar cells.
The project started 2 years ago at the Danish Institute of Technology Projektet Institut, lead by center Director Anders Thomsen, and was developed in collaboration with more than 20 Danish partners – like Velux, Isover, Junckers, Cembrit, HTH og Jeldwen.
”We have solved the modular capability by using a module of steel as basic structural element (equivalent to a 20 or 40 feet container), because of the stability and flexibility in this wellknown construction. The building system can be used for construction of detached and semidetached dwelling, townhouses, rowhouses and not least storey housing”, says architect and partner Mads Møller from Arcgency.
”The chinese municipality in Wuxi has provided 2 exhibition sites for our disposal for five years, that will be our commercial take-off both in Wuxi, and also other places in China”, tells Anders Bach-Sørensen, who is shareholder, together with Jan Sørensen, in worldFLEXhome.
