Aarstiderne's køkkenhave at Normann Copenhagen

Aarstiderne's køkkenhave is a new book that I'm looking forward to read and experiment with (you know I'm vegetarian and I do love to cook and eat well)

The book - written by the gardener of Aarstiderne Frank van Beek, Chef and co-founder Søren Ejlersen and Jacob Dietz - is a tangible guide on how to grow your own food. The story is told with soil on the hands by a professional and two vegetable enthusiasts. It is crammed with priceless tips, tricks and hard-earned experiences from the garden, flower box and the kitchen. 

Normann Copenhagen and Aarstiderne are throwing a book release for "Aarstiderne's køkkenhave" on 3rd of April (read here). You will meet the three authors of the book and you will "get your hands dirty and get home-grown vegetables on the table with the new book. There will be lots of inspiration on how to grow and cook with homegrown vegetables from your own garden or flower boxes. Meanwhile you can go exploring in the Normann Copenhagen Flagship Store and check out the newest trends in home décor and kitchenware. "

The Tietgenkollegiet in Copenhagen

I finally found my photos of the Tietgenkollegiet (The Tietgen Residence Hall), one of my favourite buildings in Copenhagen.
It is a dormitory for students where I would live immediately if I had the possibility. It makes me want to be a student again!

Restaurant Radio in Copenhagen (Frederiksberg) was designed by HolmbäckNordentoft in collaboration with Christina Meyer Bengtsson.

"For the first time since the opening of Noma in 2003, I  have opened a new restaurant by the name Radio together with foodmates, partners and headchefs Jesper Kirketerp and Rasmus Kliim.
The main idea behind this restaurant was to have talented people with great attitude cook and serve vegetable based modern Nordic food at accessible prices, in an unprentious contemporary urban  setting.
The majority of the produce used in the restaurant stems from our own organic vegetable field just outside Copenhagen. This allows us to honour the "from farm to table" principle; we grow what we want to serve and we constantly learn from the interaction with our vegetable growers. This way, seasonality and linkedness to nature, some of the core values of the New Nordic Cuisine, also become very concrete to us all. We also try to create more intimate relations with fishermen and hunters.
Growing more than a hundred different crops gives us access to vegetables of an immense diversity of flavours, colours and textures. Our vegetable approach is first and foremost about how we prefer to eat ourselves. It's a matter of hedonism.
That being said, it is also about ethics! Bjarke Ingels, our young vibrant architect, would call it "hedonistic sustainability". Eating more vegetables and less meat is a precondition for individual health and a sustainable future, considering the growth in the world's population and climate change. Radio would like to encourage people to assume a greater responsibility by introducing them to all the wonders of plant-based food. And maybe even to become co-producers such as the forty families who have rented their own little piece of land from us and grow their own vegetables side by side with us."

Made a Mano - DK

The company Made a Mano was founded in 2001 and based in Copenhagen. 

The ambitions of the owners (Rosario Parrinello, NanaKi Bonfils and Josephine Akvama) were :

1 - to create a collection of tiles, countertops and sinks, combining ancient traditional handicraft with modern techniques;

2 - revealing a sure sense of beauty and style. 

Made a Mano's  working techniques are free hand drawing - it involves drawing the decoration by hand using a pencil and then applying the colours by brush - and handprinting - a technique that uses shapes of designs pressed onto the object while colours are applied to the object by brush.

Fritz Juel, a houseboat in Copenhagen

 

Fritz Juel is a ferryboat built in 1954 in Svendborg, Denmark and now converted into a charming houseboat from DSA Ark . Fritz Juel has for a long time been facing Nyhavn and is now berthed at the Holmen. Equiped with solar panels on its roof, it hosted the office of architect Nils Jeppe Hansen, owner of DSA Ark Studio. Read the History and see more photos here.

in incorporating solar energy into buildings without compromising
the design of the exterior. This I have been able to
achieve on “Fritz Juel”, the house boat dated back from 1954,
where I have my office. I was able to install a system that supplies
plenty of usable energy that is generated by the sun. This
has lowered my heating costs and benefits the environment

Royal Copenhagen + the Royal Café in Copenhagen

How going to Copenhagen and miss a visit to Royal Copenhagen museum-shop? Interiors were fantastic and casually I discovered the near fairy Royal Cafe where you can eat cakes and smørrebrød.

 

The Royal Cafe is created and owned by Lo Østergaard and Rud Christiansen that happily opened it on 2007. The Cafe is a 50/50 mix of shop and food where famous Danish manufacturers - Royal Copenhagen, Georg Jensen, Fritz Hansen, Bang & Olufsen, Kvadrat, Carlsberg, Holmegaard etc. - are presented in a Cafe/Shop environment. Locations outside Denmark will function and perform as a “mini” danish embassy, where design, history and cuisine from Denmark are incorporated.

Lo and Rud have taken great care to find products for The Royal Cafe construction. Fritz Hansen have for example produced the “ANT” chair designed by Arne Jacobsen in a new size called counter-height for the first time. Holmegaard Glass have produced the chandeliers according to the owners' design, using their own expertise in glass making. Royal Copenhagen have adapted several serving items, so that they are functional in a Cafe enviroment. Also Georg Jensen uses their many designs in cutlery, vases, candlesticks and salt/pepper grinders for preserving the clients attention to their long history of design.

“We also feel that it is important to notice that The Royal Cafe has “soul” and we like to call it “Funky Baroque – design confusion, humourous and chic”.
