Sebastian Herkner's Chalice, ceiling and table lamp in tinted glass and felt
Sebastian Herkner's Nomis, side table in oak wood and aluminium

After their diploma at the Academy of Arts and Design Offenbach am Main,
these two German designers have set up their own studio and work as freelance. We met them at Milano in 2009 and 2010, they keep on surprising us with other elegant design products that have a very precious caractére: they are not only beautiful but also timeless, not easy to do, bravo!!

Staffan Holm

Karusell, stackable stool and Vase, clothehanger in the back
'Laminated ash veneer, bent in two directions. This is a conversation between contemporary design/manufacturing techniques and the magic of the old masters like Eames, Bruno Mathsson and Alvar Alto. The stool is light and will stack as high as you dare.'
Staffan Holm is a Swedish designer from Gothenburg, have a look to his site for other interestings detail of his work, like The Precious project for example!

Daniel Rybakken, light of life

Colour - in collaboration with Andreas Engesvik
Swedish Daniel Rybakken has always been interested in lights and her effects on living. His work reflects the study of how to riproduce natural lights in interiors. Shy, clean, intimate, natural light with her shadows, her changing. A perfect example is his installation Daylight Entrance in Stockholm (under) : imagine the same interior without the window simulation, never the same!

LAB23 urban furnishment

'Architecture is part of the new layout given by energetic sustainability principles, to help prevent harmful emissions in the air. If streets and squares are enriched by plants and trees, if green areas are integrated into parking areas, if the city wants to go back to being a social place and not just a working one, the aesthetic and functional quality of urban furnishing become two necessary and complementary elements.'

Sanna Lindstrom and Sigrid Stromgren

Grand Central

Sanna Lindström and Sigrid Strömgren are two independent designers situated in Stockholm and Gothenburg, Sweden. Grand Central, their first piece together, is an innovative expandable table that transforms from space-saving occasional table to the central piece of the room. Like a pop-up - the inspiration comes from a pop-up map of New York - the tabletop is divided into 22 pieces that folds out in a spectacular way through its advanced construction. Dramatic and poetic at the same time.

Luck & Fancy by Ivy Chuang

'Knoend' :: express his philosophy to the world: Know no end!

The design studio was founded in 2006 by Ivy Chuang. She is interested in exploring the role of design at the intersection of culture, craft, technology, and sustainability.
From her introduction: 'Knoend is an ecodesign studio operating on the belief that design is a catalyst for change. Design has the power to create new experiences that will bring enhanced meaning to life.
With every product or project undertaken, the goal is to provide a fresh look at the world, to allow people to see, feel, experience life in another way and to do so without negative environmental or social impact.'
Luck & Fancy (in these photoes in Milan) is a furniture collection born with the goal of connecting people with technology, realized with manufacturing methods that combine digital technology and artisanal craft. 'In an age when machines steadily replace master artisans, and handicraft continues to shift to developing nations', Ivy shows a possible direction to the interaction of sustainability and technology with culture and craft in our future.

ON/OFF d-VISION

The "ON/OFF" project, displaied at Milan SaloneSatellite 2010,  explores various applications of LED lighting and pushes it towards surprising limits. The result is a collection of lighting ideated by Israeli design graduate interns participating in the industrial design program d-VISION.
Olla, the LED light system above, is made from glass and brass; the shade is being blown by us.
