A one centimetre thick big plastic zip runs, along the perimeter and marks the upper and bottom borders as well as the back and front. Abbracciaio | Starck and Maggiar for Kartell

Abbracciaio is the new candle holder designed by Philippe Starck & Ambroise Maggiar and produced by Kartell. The name is the fusion of two Italian words that mean 'hug' and 'steel'. Infact, Abbracciaio is an aluminium casting of two shapes which are placed one in front of the other and linked in a loving embrace. Abbracciaio holds two candles and is made of polished aluminium in various colours.
With Abbracciaio, even candle holders are in love, Philippe Starck

New life for wooden barriques: Giuseppe Leida – Tino cavallino

"The design of Tino cavallino - by Giuseppe Leida - was inspired by carefree childhood life, cradled by play and upbringing; a stylized horse for a child of two or three years of age, easy to produce and made using reused elements such as the staves of the barriques. The arched shape of the oak staves and their colour reddened by the wine in the concave side themselves contain the very essence of movement and life.Tino will be a friend to some lucky children and the pride of adults who know that, while making it they will recover themselves, as well as the casks. Being at SanPa is like being reborn, growing up, getting to know oneself and becoming playful again."

Through ancient trades, young people find a new life and used wood is recycled into a work of art. The barrique recycling project is the result of a partnership between San Patrignano, Maurizio and Davide Riva, and the support of Federvini, FederlegnoArredo and Cosmit, drawing on an impressive list of thirty world renowned designers which created unique pieces using French oak casks from the Community’s winery.

Kinnasand, new HEMP collection

The new Kinnasand HEMP carpet collection stands for a carpet collection of authentic unique pieces. The handwoven kelims are characterised by the prevailing tradition of the nomads and a puristic design language. Each HEMP carpet is composed of fragments of ancient kelims handwoven in 100% hemp, narrating it’s own story. Since every fragment of your HEMP kelim comes from different provinces, colour shadings and differences in the weaving structure are essential features.
The kelims of the collection are unique pieces with a history. Each original piece is composed of fragments of ancient carpets, handwoven by the nomads in 100% hemp.
For the HEMP collection best quality of these 30-60 year old kelims are selected on site. The carpets are repeatedly wasched, bleached, dyed and dried. They are individually manufactured and reassembled carefully by hand.
Since every fragment of your kelim originates from different provinces, colour shadings and differences in weaving structures are significant features. Eventual appearance of shady areas, single extraneous yarn as well as small knots are manifestations of its authenticity.
The HEMP Kelims - plain and multicolour - are unique pieces with a history and are available in 10 standard sizes. Individual sizes are possible upon request.

Following, two pieces of a previous collection of Kinnasand, the VINTAGE Carpet Collection.

Moooi Lighting Collection, Lolita

Designed by Nika Zupanc in 2008, Lolita is part of the Moooi lighting collection. The lamp has a injection moulded abs shade and a polyurethane base, it is produced as suspended, floor or table lamp in the colors white, black, grey or pink. I love the mix above or b/w, if you have photo of other nice installations, send the link in the dashboard or on facebook, please!

"Who is afraid of pink? My imagination chases female archetypes intentionally. Frivolous, even naive objects are my favorite victims. And when, during such a process, I manage to be creative in an evidently reserved way, I then touch the purest meaning of my work and frivolity becomes timeless elegance. Lolita is here to play with your emotions. She is here to break your everyday routine."

David Derksen Design

David Derksen opened his studio in Rotterdam. Last spring, he presented his work in Milano with Tuttobene. 'Simply by folding, a thin copper sheet can be used to construct stable forms. This principle defines the shape and aesthetics of the Copper Lights. For precise bending, the lines have been etched halfway into the material. The sheets are then folded and assembled by hand. The three variations of the Copper Lights make them suitable for many different interior applications.'

'Transcience shows the beauty of the natural oxidizing process of mirrors.
By accelerating and manipulating this process, the Transcience mirrors show various stages of oxidation in three different geometrical patterns.'

New / Colour porcelain - SCHOLTEN & BAIJINGS for 1616 Arita

At the request of 1616 Arita, one of the oldest (1616) Japanese porcelain manufacturers, Scholten & Baijings designed a very comprehensive porcelain service. The collection consists of three series: Minimal, Colourful and Extraordinary. In addition to exclusive plates, cups and bowls, each series also comprises serving platters, candleholders, vases and a tea set. The distinctive Japanese Arita porcelain is renowned for its superb quality, where fine hand-painted decorations play a central role. The tradition of porcelain painting dates back to 1616, when the abducted Korean potter Yi Sam-Sam-Pyeong discovered a superior quality clay in Arita. For the collection of 1616 Arita, Scholten & Baijings prepared a colour analysis involving historical masterpieces. Typical Japanese colours, such as aquarelle blue, light green, red-orange and yellow ochre, were the ones that played a prominent role. These colours have been used individually in the new designs, but together they form the specific Arita colour spectrum. The results are layered colour compositions, executed in different shades of glaze, in combination with the natural porcelain colour. The latter has a special delicate grey-white hue, which makes it unique in the world. The names of the series refer to the amount of colour, details and patterns used. 'Colour Porcelain - Extraordinary’ is the most elaborately finished version. By applying the compositions to an extremely functional service, a splendid dialogue has been created between applied art and everyday use. The combination of this traditional craftsmanship and Scholten & Baijings’ recognizable signature style has resulted in a unique mix of Asian and European culture.

fukuroo

Bai - dining chair - and Lightweight Beam

Lightweight Beam

Sei - bottle rack - and Lightweight Beam
fukuroo is a product design studio based in San Sebastian and Berlin. Founded during the summer of 2011 by Ander Lizaso and Alfonso Ruano Canales, industrial designer and architect respectively.
The studio's work has been featured for the first time at Greenhouse 2012 during Stockholm light & furniture fair and Salone Satellite 2012 Milan. I like them very much!

Bai dining chair combines a shell upholstered in bute tweed with a cross legged natural finished beech structure. Its sensual shapes are reminiscent of classical scandinavian design icons with special attention to the subtly curved armrests.

Lightweight Beam is a 100 cm and up to 200cm long self-supporting lamp which defines a field on the work surface, serving as an office or reading lamp but also an ambient light when hung on the wall or regulated towards it when resting on the table
Its construction allows to regulate the angle of the light by hand.
Based on LED technology, it can be changed and redefined with the addition of a few simple elements.

Sei is a bottle rack that holds up to six bottles of wine. The simple and soft shape of Sei is proposed in two versions, in bent plywood and epoxi coated aluminum.
