Marimekko Unikko 50 years + Home Collection Spring/Summer 2014
In spring 2014 Marimekko encourages people to be bold in realizing their visions for their homes and letting their imagination run free.
In 2014, Marimekko also celebrates the 50th anniversary of its most iconic pattern, Unikko.
Maija Isola’s classic Unikko (poppy) pattern was born in 1964 shortly after the company’s founder Armi Ratia had announced that Marimekko would never print a floral pattern. Maija refused to obey Armi’s orders and, in protest, designed an entire

The Story of Bolon - The Book
![]() |
Lars and Monica |
We were talking about Bolon, the Swedish company producing unique woven floors, in my previous post.
Well, to celebrate their ten-years anniversary, the third generation owners, Marie and Annica Eklund, have presented a very special book dedicated to the story behind their family business and realized by the editor Simon Mills with the beautiful black and white photos by the internationally famous photographer Tobias Regell.
“The Story of Bolon” is a flirtatious dalliance with the fine books found on the coffee tables of the fashion world.
The book interweaves memories and historical photographs from Bolon’s early days, comprising unique collection prints and personal interviews with some of the world’s foremost creators, designers and architects; from Rosita Missoni, Jean Nouvel and Giulio Cappellini to Thomas Sandell and Gert Wingårdh.
A digital edition of the book is available here.

Bolon launches new studio tile WING
![]() |
Bolon Wing |
During 2013, Bolon launched Wing - a flooring tile produced from roll material that with its shape may be combined with several of the Bolon’s collections reenergising them and adding a nice variation.
Wing is part of Bolon Studio and was created expecially to facilitates new dimensions for interior design environments.
Throughout 2013, Bolon is celebrating the ten-years anniversary of the third generation owners, Marie and Annica Eklund.
Bolon is a third generation family business. The company’s history starts in Stockholm in 1949, when Nils-Erik Eklund had the brilliant idea of using textile waste from the neighbouring factory to manufacture woven rag rugs. The company’s name is a combination of the first and last letters of the Swedish words BOmull (cotton) and nyLON. In the 1960s the enterprise - handed down to Lars and Monica Eklund - continued developing the rag rug concept and created a completely new business niche – awning mats for caravans.
The third generation of the family, the sister Marie and Annica, took over the enterprise in 2003 and embarked on the journey that would shape Bolon for the future.
Today, Bolon is a design-led business which produce unique woven floors for creative and inspiring environments.
All of their floors are designed and manufactured from their factory in Ulricehamn, Sweden.
The production is energy efficient, careful to recycling and to assume responsibility throughout the product cycle.

Society – Limonta – Italian textiles
The most intriguing stories often start with a question. “Why not create something for ourselves, when all we have created so far has been solely for others?” The rumination is that of Limonta, a firm that started life in 1893 in Costamasnaga, near Lecco, an area with one of the longest textile manufacturing traditions in Europe. Limonta has worked in the clothing, furnishing, sports, and automobile sectors. Answering to the previous question, Limonta has formed in 2000, Society, a special firm driven by the desire to try out innovative solutions in home couture.
Society selects the best fibres from linen to wool and unearths those that perhaps nobody any longer uses, such as manila hemp. Thanks to the production capacity of the Limonta Group, Society can now produce “in house” flat-weave and jacquard-weave fabrics, velvets and terry cloth, and much else, and take the time to try out new combinations and mixes never yet tried. This is a real luxury to afford today.
Let’s take “whole-product dyeing”. This is a dyeing technique in which fabrics are assembled in unprocessed form and then dyed in the “dye bath”, without any mechanized drive. The result is a natural, spontaneous imperfection that confers on each single item a distinctly “used” appearance and, at the same time, makes it shrink resistant to every wash. In this way, every tablecloth and every bed sheet has a unique colour shade that marks it out from any other. This feature increases the scope to combine, mix, and create differences and unusual colour contrasts. It is Society that thought of them, but the creativity is left to you.
Society's range of products includes: table, bedroom, bathroom, accessories, clothing, baby.

Mimou - Sweden | Creativity Rules
... decorating is not nuclear science - it´s all about bringing items together with love.
Mimou is a Swedish productor of gorgeous wallpaper, linen, cushions, fabrics, furnitures. These snapshots come from their last beautiful inspiring catalog celebrating the end consumer and well titled 'creativity rules'.
In the making of our products we always have the user in mind and we are always curious as to what happens with the product when it "leaves home". What will it look like? Will it be happy? Will it be cared for? We are a bit like anxious parents to a teenager.
In Sweden we have a saying: The taste is like the butt - divided. Well, in this catalog we wanted to find out more... We invited 7 people to show their version of what our products look like in their environment. The result blew us away with astonishment. All styles were distinctly different from each other and still we loved them all.

Kinnasand, new HEMP collection
The kelims of the collection are unique pieces with a history. Each original piece is composed of fragments of ancient carpets, handwoven by the nomads in 100% hemp.
For the HEMP collection best quality of these 30-60 year old kelims are selected on site. The carpets are repeatedly wasched, bleached, dyed and dried. They are individually manufactured and reassembled carefully by hand.
For the HEMP collection best quality of these 30-60 year old kelims are selected on site. The carpets are repeatedly wasched, bleached, dyed and dried. They are individually manufactured and reassembled carefully by hand.
Since every fragment of your kelim originates from different provinces, colour shadings and differences in weaving structures are significant features. Eventual appearance of shady areas, single extraneous yarn as well as small knots are manifestations of its authenticity.
The HEMP Kelims - plain and multicolour - are unique pieces with a history and are available in 10 standard sizes. Individual sizes are possible upon request.
Following, two pieces of a previous collection of Kinnasand, the VINTAGE Carpet Collection.
